Michael Kors N223
Color, Material & Finish | Fall 2023
Custom acetate development, lens treatments, and color execution for the Michael Kors Fall 2023 eyewear collection.
Monogram Pattern Development
For the N223 collection, I developed custom monogram patterns for acetate eyewear, experimenting with scale, color, and contrast to create different interpretations of Michael Kors branding. The goal was to integrate recognizable graphic elements into the material itself, rather than relying solely on applied logos or hardware.
Patterned Lens Explorations
I developed a series of monogram patterns for sunglass lenses, experimenting with scale, contrast, and color. Each variation used the same printing technique, allowing me to explore different visual treatments of Michael Kors branding.
Material Construction
For the N223 collection, I worked with layered acetate constructions to create depth, contrast, and distinctive material finishes. These included bi-layer milled acetate and split-acetate temple designs, using the relationship between materials, color, and construction to develop the collection's visual identity.
Color CAD Execution
I developed color CADs to communicate material combinations, finishes, and color placement across the collection. These illustrations helped translate seasonal design direction into clear visual references for product development and manufacturing.
CAD to Production
The color CADs served as visual specifications for product development and manufacturing, communicating acetate patterns, metal finishes, lens colors, transparency, and branding. I also reviewed physical samples to evaluate how these details translated into finished products and identify areas for refinement.
68 SKUs Developed Through Production
The N223 development work encompassed 68 SKUs across men's and women's sun and optical eyewear, outlet assortments, and updates to existing styles. Through physical sample reviews, I evaluated CMF fidelity and refined details such as the scale of printed lens graphics to better align finished products with the intended designs.
